Description:

96 Points James Suckling (Formerly Wine Spectator): This is a very rich Sangiovese on the nose with dried black cherries and strawberries. Lots of dark chocolate too. Loads of black chocolate cake and dried coffee cake character. Full and very powerful. Lots of ripe tannins. Goes on for minutes.

Maybe not your father's Brunello but one of the better of the 2006's that I have tasted. Probably will be even better in a couple of years.

Notes on the Ciacci Piccolomini D'Aragona Pianrosso Brunello Di Montalcino 750ML 2006

Wine Maker Notes Ciacci Piccolomini d’ Aragona vineyards are located in the south, south-west side of Montalcino at an altitude between 240 and 360 mt above sea level. The stony slopes near the Orcia river benefit from a particularly mild microclimate and here the vines grow in ideal climatic conditions. Due to its strategic position the Vigna di Pianrosso (meaning Pianrosso vineyard) represents the best expression of the estate in terms of quality and terroir. For these reasons Ciacci Piccolomini d’ Aragona selects the best grape for Brunello Pianrosso and Brunello Riserva Vigna di Pianrosso from this single vineyard. The care and attention that Ciacci Piccolomini d’ Aragona pays to the grapes and the vines themselves is true to peasant tradition but with the advantage of modern resources, thereby allowing to enhance the modernity and relevance of its wines.

Technical Notes This wine is the result of a careful selection of grapes from the Pianrosso vineyard and it has always been our most representative wine. From this single vineyard we also select the grapes for our Brunello Riserva. The Grape varietal of this wine is 100% Sangiovese Grosso; is fermented and refined in stainless steel and glass concrete vats with temperature controlled through cooling plates and jackets and aged 36 months in 20-62 hl Slavonian oak barrels, followed by a minimum of 8 month period of bottle ageing.
