Primitivo di Manduria is a DOC of the Puglia wine region in the south-eastern corner of Italy. Introduced in 1974 at the same time as Moscato di Trani and Rosso di Cerignola, its counterparts in northern Puglia, Primitivo di Manduria is among the oldest of the approximately 15 DOCs in Italy's 'heel'.
Tasting Notes 100% Primitivo di Manduria. Aged in oak for 12 months. Ruby red with garnet reflections. Generous nose of plums and ripe fruits. Velvety texture, dry, spicy and full-bodied.
Technical Notes Primitivo is a dark-skinned grape variety used in certain inky, tannic wines from the Puglia region of deepest southern Italy. It is perhaps better known under its American synonym Zinfandel, which has become one of the most widely planted Vitis vinifera vines in the western United States.
