94 Points Wine Enthusiast: A big, hard, dry Cabernet whose mountain tannins need quite some time to resolve. Right now they’re tough as nails, although the blackberry fruit is so brilliant and intense, it punches right through. Give this dramatic wine at least six years, and it could well develop beyond the next decade.
Brilliantly made red with estate grapes. As soon as you pour this red into the glass, you can see the deep red/purple color that is just so dense. Aromas are quite apparent. However, I should've decanted this powerful red for about a couple of hours before tasting it. I just couldn't resist.
Perfectly balanced, this favorite is loaded with dark fruit, black cherry, mocha and caramel. With a touch of cedar and vanilla on a velvety mid-palate co-mingled with lively tannins and a hint of violet. Full and velvety in the mouth with a lingering finish touched with flavors of sarsaparilla. Bright acidity yet gentle tannins, this
wine is made for the cellar for up to 12 years.
Only the darkest, most extracted lots from our Estate vineyards are used in making this wine. The oldest block was planted in 1970 to budwood from Martha’s Vineyard. The second block, 4 acres in size, was planted in 1983. Then in 1991 the von Strasser’s planted Petit Verdot, Merlot and Malbec.
