It is dry. But why are they calling it the "ultimate wine?" What a ridiculous, irresponsible thing to say about this wine. It is o.k. Sangiovese, basic at best. How can we trust people who make claims like this?

I bought three cases of this good Sangiovese wine a few months ago and have been enjoying it as a very good wine for the price. It is my preferred wine when cooking Italian dishes, meaning for both the wine required for cooking and the wine to drink with the meal.

Notes on the Donna Laura Ali Sangiovese Di Toscana I.G.T 750ML 2011

Wine Maker Notes Donna Laura, based in the northern Chianti Classico region, crafts this versatile Sangiovese; aging in stainless steel tanks for a year before bottling, giving the wine a dark-toned fruit flavor. Pure, true terroir-based Sangiovese delivered at an affordable price is the calling card of this terrific new Tuscan producer. Located in the Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico, Donna Laura produces three cuvees of exceptional flavor and intensity. Owner Lia Tolaini-Banville utilizes two distinct Sangiovese clones to achieve both earthy, peppery depth and a lively fruit aspect. This cuvee, Ali (named for Lia's daughter,) sees a year of aging in stainless steel before bottling. Its dark-toned fruit evenly moderated in the mouth by a slight spice and nice acidity.

Technical Notes Tuscany is the quintessential Italian wine region, a place where the Renaissance was born and the Church has reigned. Wine has found a place as one of the most humble of comforts with the people of Tuscany, on the table at every meal or served with a piece of bread as the meal itself. Though all made from the most famous of Tuscan grapes, Sangiovese, Tuscany is the birthplace of some of the most recognizable Italian wines: Chianti and Brunello di Montalcino. Italy's also a land of district microclimates, so while traditional red's feature the sangiovese grape, they can showcase different lands of structure and flavor characteristics.
