Deep ruby in color. Intense aromas with layers of blackberries, ripe plums, dry herbs and spice. A velvety texture infuses the mouth with opulent notes of concentrated ripe black fruits, red currants and licorice. Full bodied with balanced tannins ending in lengthy, elegant finish.
Wine Maker Notes
Hand harvested whole bunches were destemmed, crushed and macerated on the skins for 15 days with periodic pumping over. Fermentation starts soon after the crushing, thus at the same time of maceration in temperature controlled stainless steel vats. The wine rested 18 months in 80 percent new French Allier barriques before blending, followed by six months in bottle prior to release.
Grapes are sourced from the Barrua vineyard, which lends its name to the wine. Carignano, the blend's predominant grape of Spanish origin, has found its perfect terroir in the warm, well exposed Sardinian terrain. Bush vines are closely planted, to minimize yields and maximize the wine's concentration.
