Wine Maker Notes
The grapes mainly comes from a 3 hectares parcel in La Crau with vines that are more than 80 years old: 90-95% Grenache and 5-10% Mourvedre. The malolactic fermentation takes place in new oak barrels (at least 10%) and in foudres. Ageing in barrels or foudres for 8-18 months.
Eugene Maret the grandfather of Michel Maret bought the property in 1912 as a gift for his wife who was the daughter of a wine grower in the area. His son Fernand Maret enlarged the estate. In 1973 Michel Maret took over the property as third generation. He was the one who named the estate Domaine de la Charbonnière from the lieu-dit around the domain. The name means the area of charcoal burning.
The fourth generation Veronique and Caroline both work at the domain. Veronique has been responsible for the wine making since 2007. They are ready to take over when Mireille and Michel find that it's time to retire.
