92 Point Wine Advocate : The 2009 Cistum was sourced from 120-year-old ungrafted pre-phylloxera vines aged for 6 months in new French oak. Cedar, pencil lead, Asian spices, incense, and black cherry liqueur aromas are some of the elements leading to a voluminous, focused, layered wine with enough structure to evolve for 2-3 years. This remarkable example of old-vine Garnacha will be at its best from 2012 to 2024.
Rafael Reverte began making wine from ancient vineyards in Navarra in 2006. Prior to searching out these extreme climates, eight generations of Reverte's learned their craft in Rioja. A century of practice has given them a new form of understanding, on how to make wine from these unique sites. With 100+ year old vines at their disposal, they gently combine stainless steel fermentation and new oak barrel again to craft a wine of singular depth and character.
