97 Point Wine Enthusiast: The 2010 vintage was a very small crop with only 60% normal rainfall. Grape clusters were tiny. A hard frost hit the coldest sites but fortunately little frost damage occurred in this mid-valley Oakville region. For most of the harvest, the weather was perfect which resulted in very dark and powerful wines. Our Game Ranch Cabernet displays the classic Oakville mint and blueberry character with intense black currant flavors and a plummy note in the finish. The tannin levels are a little firmer than in 2007, but the wines are very powerful and well-balanced.
The vineyard is situated on a terraced knoll, just east of the town of Geyserville and is comprised primarily of a gravelly loam soil. The slope direction provides excellent exposure of the grape clusters and allows for long “hang time.” This provides us with perfectly formed bunches of grapes that possess optimal ripeness and fully developed varietal character. The unique combination of exposure, soil conditions, drainage, and mature vines produces wines of rich, concentrated flavors that showcase the true character of the region, the vineyard, and the varietal.
The Goldschmidt Vineyard Yoeman Cabernet is a full bodied wine with supple tannins, luxurious texture, and a lengthy finish. The wine is exceptional and exhibits the richness and balance that are the hallmarks of world class wines.
