AJ Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley 2009 750ml

AJ Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

This plush, smooth, ripe, plummy, medium bodied, Alexander Valley Cabernet is velvety textured, brimming with lots of delightful flavors of black cherries, cocoa, raspberry jam, and creme de cassis. From a spectacular California vintage, this 2009 is silky, long and elegant, and should drink quite well for the next 3-5+ years, but at its very best now. Enthusiastically recommended, especially at this price-point.

In 2009, we primarily selected our grapes from prominent Sonoma County vineyards. Each of these sites added a unique layer of complexity to the final wine. The mild growing season of 2009 gave our grapes the opportunity to ripen without over producing sugar, resulting in a nice balance of acidity and fruit flavor.

Alexander Valley Vineyards is owned and operated by the Harry Wetzel family. Founded in 1975, it is located on Cyrus Alexander's old homestead. The Wetzel Family Estate now grows fourteen grape varieties, on diverse sites stretching from the banks of the Russian River up onto the hillsides. Each grape variety is matched to a specific soil type and exposure. Vineyard Manager Mark Houser and Winemaker Kevin Hall work as a team to maximize fruit flavor in the vineyard and to create balanced wines that capture the grapes’ varietal characteristics. Hank Wetzel oversees the vineyard and winery operations, and his wife Linda continues to oversee administration. Now the third generation of Wetzels has joined the winery. Harry Wetzel, IV is assistant winemaker while younger brother Robert is the National Sales Manager.

The part of the cork in contact with the wine has disintegrated into the wine. Each bottle must be filtered to remove the liquified cork. If available I will not purchase again.
