90 points and a "Best Buy" designation in Malbec from Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, no tasting note given. (Dec. 2007) From Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Good full, saturated ruby. Expressive nose offers blackberry pastille, roasted meat and flowers. Suave on entry, then more vibrant and delineated in the middle than the regular Alamos malbec bottling, showing nicely concentrated flavors of blackberry, violet and leather, complicated by a note of bitter chocolate. Densely packed, fruity malbec, finishing with fine, building tannins and good length. This comes from a cooler site in La Consulta." (Jan/Feb '08) Wine Spectator says: "Nice vivid purple and blue fruit flavors run through this red, with creamy-textured mocha, spice cake and licorice notes and a lively, fruit-filled finish. Drink now. 8,000 cases imported." (9/04/07) Alamos designed their Selección series to highlight to the small, hardworking winegrower's of Mendoza, Argentina. The 2006 features the wines of the La Consulta Vineyard and is a magical, inky violet hue. The nose is full of ripe black fruits and flowers, with hints of leather, vanilla and spice. Juicy, mouth filling raspberry, black cherry and blackcurrant flavors with a kick of black pepper and exotic anise. Full-bodied yet supple, the finish is long, with tannins smooth like royal velvet and refreshing acidity. Try this with a chimichurri rubbed steak.
