Comprised of nearly 30 acres, Chateau Taillefer is one of the largest estates in Pomerol (the average size is 10 acres). In existence since the middle of the 18th century, the chateau was purchased in 1923 by the venerable Moueix family, one of Bordeaux’s great winemaking dynasties. Planted on a renowned terroir of clay and iron crasse de fer subsoil, the estate produces unusually distinctive wines. Each decision made in the vineyard and cellar is carefully considered, from the selection of rootstock and green harvest 10 complete destemming before crushing and the use of a broad range of barrel coopers. The objective to make superb wines in the tradition of the finest estates of Pomerol is clearly defined and achieved.
