Sundial Chardonnay is characteristically golden straw in color, with aromas of tropical fruit like mango, pineapple, banana, ripe Kiwi and honeydew melon alongside notes of cinnamon, vanilla bean, lemon grass with hints of hazelnut and cloves. The wine is crafted to be fruit-forward, medium weight, with crisp citrus and lingering melon, pear and crème fraiche flavors. The balanced mouthfeel leads to a wonderfully lingering finish.

We do things a little differently around here a and thata s what gives Jack Daniela s its distinctive character. We Charcoal Mellow our whiskey drop by drop, then let it age in our own handcrafted barrels. And we dona t follow a calendar. Our Tennessee Sippina Whiskey is ready only when our tasters say it is. We use our senses, just like Jack Daniel himself did. In fact, more than a century later, our Tennessee Whiskey is still judged the same way. By the way it looks. By the way it smells. And of course, by the way it tastes.

I’ve always been a whisky fan, says Rich Stabile, the founder of Long Island Spirits and the creator of Pine Barrens Single Malt Whisky. When we decided we were going to make a whisky, we really wanted to do something different and knock people’s socks off. Most American whiskies are made from corn or rye ” we wanted to do something totally unique, so we decided to distill a craft beer. Pine Barrens Single Malt Whisky is distilled from bottle-ready Old Howling Bastard beer (10.0% ABV). The beer, which is made from English two-row barley and Vienna malt, has a robust caramel flavor that is nicely balanced by strong notes of hops. All whiskies start out as beer, but 99.999% of those beers are undrinkable before you distill them, says Stabile. We started our whisky-making process with a great, high quality, drinkable beer and distilled it in micro-batches.

Nose: Very fruity; fresh and candied orange, muscavado sugar, clove, and vanilla. Pleasant but not inspiring, a little ‘closed’ even after leaving in the glass for a while. Neat: The slightly flat nose continues on the palate. By no means is this a bad cognac, it just doesn’t seem to want to open up and release its flavours. Off sweet initially but drying soon after and a little plasticky with a touch of leather about it. Fruity notes are little more muted and err towards dried fig and apricot rather than the citrus evident on the nose. A few rough edges mean it won’t make my ‘to sip’ list but offer promise for mixing.
