In 1975, the Wagners produced their first Special Selection Cab, which remains the only wine to have twice been named WS "Wine of the Year" (84 & 90). Dark dense red with black fruit and currant aromas adding a gentle touch of spice.
On the palate layered flavors of plum, blackberry and sweet raspberry together with cacao, sugar cane and supple leather. Firm but approachable tannins, nice now but aging will benefit. Long ending with earthy notes.
As good as it gets. Amazing fruit, ripe and rich. Extracted, opaque. Ripe plum and blackberry. A mouthful of a perfectly balanced wine.
Even though this wine is young it is drinking beautifully and will only get better with age. Dark fruits, herbs, mint and a hint of cocoa come through. The tannins are powerful but support the velvet textures incredibly well. A true powerhouse for the books.
