Haut-Bages-Averous was the second wine label for Chateau Lynch Bages until the 2000s when the property changed the name to Echo de Lynch Bages.
The second wine of Château Lynch-Bages is very tightly wound, with an elegant core of black cherry, herb and cedar flavors cloaked in tough but fine tannins. This is a wine with obvious style and class. Not for early drinking.
The 1988 Haut Bages Averous has really come around and is showing beautifully as a mature Bordeaux now. Lovely sweet cherried fruit mingling with notes of leather and sous bois cry out for a roasted rack of lamb. The fine integrated tannins and sweet finish with lovely graphite and cedar notes. Not surprisingly Lynch Bages pulled out a great success with their second wine in 1988, a lovely classic Pauillac at a great price.
