The Château Lalande Borie was created in 1970 by Jean-Eugène Borie on the soil of Lalande he acquired that year with a grand cru of St Julien and to which he added his name. Today managed by Jean Eugène Borie SA, believed this, which quickly acquired a reputation belongs to Mrs Jean-Eugène Borie, his daughter (Sabine Cap) and Bruno-Eugène son (Pdt of the Management Board). Lalande-Borie is located on the western part of the Saint Julien. The estate, located in the heart of terroirs of several Grands Crus known, consists of a single plot that spans 30 hectares of which 22 hectares are currently planted with vines. The floor consists of a lightweight gravel covering a basement of coarser gravel and clay. The emblematic grape varieties of Bordeaux vineyards that are Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon are planted on the property and in this region of adequate criteria for full expression. The whole vineyard is drained which gives a fruit best quality for their maturation.The wines are characterized by a powerful aromatic richness. They may be aged for more than 10 years.The 2012 vintage leaves fully express the authenticity of the terroir of Saint-Julien. The dress is red to purple amethyst hues. The bouquet gives off aromas of wild berries accented by chocolate notes.The mouth is full and harmonious, the tannins bring a pleasant complexity giving the wine a nice character.Château Lalande-Borie 2012 is a sure value of the Saint -Julien. You can drink this wine now and most patients can also appreciate its evolution over the next ten years.At Château Lalande Borie, all the grapes are harvested manually. Sorting is carried out directly in the vines on mobile tables to avoid contact between unhealthy and healthy grapes during transport to the vat room. Alcoholic fermentation is managed at relatively low temperatures (between 26 and 28°) to optimise the fruity aromas of the wine. Pumping-over is gentle to avoid extracting too many tannins and obtain a pleasant fattiness. Malolactic fermentation of the free run wine and the press-wine (pneumatic pressing) takes place in vats for optimal control.
The wine is barrelled in Bordeaux barrels (225L, French oak) immediately after blend selection with 20 to 30% new barrels according to the vintage. Unselected batches are sold in bulk to the Bordeaux trade under the Saint-Julien appellation. Bottling is performed with special care in regard both to oenological controls and homogenisation of the overall final wine. The 5 cork makers supplying the estate have signed a detailed quality charter.
The 25ha of the present vineyard of Château Lalande Borie is planted with 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc. With a density of 8,500 vines per hectare, the vineyard is managed traditionally (Medoc, double Guyot pruning etc.), while including the latest viticultural techniques: leaf-thinning by hand, green harvests in summer, partial cover crop, control of yields and application of sustainable phytosanitary treatments.
