Rosso di Montalcino, the young cousin to Brunello, is an easy drinking and lively Sangiovese. The Col D'Orcia is a weighty wine at 14% alcohol yet this strength is kept in check by a fullness of fruit and thick palate that comes alive with blackberries and spice. A delicious, everyday drinking, Tuscan Sangiovese. Rosso di Montalcino is now a classic wine, made with pure Sangiovese grapes, released one year after the harvest so as to retain all the freshness and fruitiness of a young wine and at the same time the intensity that only the Montalcino terroir is capable of delivering.
Fermentation on grape skins for about 10-12 days at controlled temperatures below 28 °C in very deep and superficial steel tanks (150 hl) to obtain delicate tannins and color extraction. Aging about 12 months in Slavonian oak barrels between 75 and 150 hl, followed by refinement in the bottle. It is an ORGANIC wine since the vintage 2013.
Ample and fruity with typical notes of Sangiovese red fruity balanced with the oak spices. Good structure, soft and pleasant tannins combined with a fresh acidity. Sapid, persistent and nicely fruity aftertaste.
Deep ruby red with violet hues, the bouquet is intense, fruity and elegant, the evident hints of ripe red fruits (blackberry and raspberry) are perfectly balanced with the pleasant scents of the oak originated by the ageing in the barrels. Good structure, warm and full-bodied, with soft elegant tannins. Long and persistent pleasant fruity aftertaste. We suggest to serve it at 18°C.
