The 2012 Volnay 1er Cru En Champans includes one-third whole cluster bunches and it is raised in around 25% new oak. The nose is bashful at the moment, but there are attractive raspberry and crushed strawberry fruit here, plus fine mineralite.
The palate is linear and masculine with a firm grip and a sinewy finish. It shows better balance and focus than de Montille’s Beaune premier crus with a seductive long finish. Domaine de Montille Volnay Champans 2013
