This crowd pleasing Cabernet delivers serious bang for the buck! It displays ripe blackcurrant and dried herb characters on the nose, which are supported by spicy oak notes. The palate is smooth and soft, with appealing ripe tannins and a long finish. Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Petit Verdot.

Excelsior Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep ruby red colour with an almost black core. This is a classic, full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with aromas of blackcurrants, chocolate, and cedar. All in all it is a powerful wine with rich tannins, however, they are of a pleasantly soft character and lead over to a long-lasting finish.

Thanks to its excellent price-enjoyment-ratio, Excelsior Cabernet Sauvignon is a great favourite among wine lovers in the USA. Gradually this recognition and popularity spreads out to Europe and Germany as well.

Winemaker Johann Stemmet produces this rich Cabernet Sauvignon from limestone soils in the Breede River Valley, adding a touch of fellow Bordeaux varietal Petit Verdot before ageing part of the wine in oak for nine months.

The wine received a Gold Medal at the WineStyle People's Choice Awards in 2015 and we're inclined to agree. You'll find ripe blackcurrant and dried herbs on the nose, with a supple, spicy palate with plenty more cassis flavours balanced by smooth tannins. Perfect with a rare steak but it also happens to be suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
