Produced by guest winemaker Steve Nelson, this wine features fruit from three special vineyard sites in the Carneros AVA; Wobken, Batto, and Patrick’s Vineyards. The juice was fermented with native and inoculated yeast and aged in French oak barrels (30% new) for 10 months. Full malolactic fermentation and regular lees stirring brought additional richness to the palate.
With all the grace and elegance of an Olympic Gymnast, Foley Johnson’s extravagantly rich, and indulgently layered Chardonnay is undeniably one of the most popular Chardonnays that we’ve featured at our tasting room in Yountville… In fact, many of you who’ve tasted it have declared that it’s better than most $50 Napa Chardonnays. It reveals an abundance of lemon meringue, crème brulée, honeysuckle and freshly picked peach, that leap from the glass and completely wraps your taste buds with opulence, poise, and serenity. Composed by Steve Nelson, former assistant winemaker at Lewis Cellars and winemaker at Chalk Hill, this is an absolutely stunning expression of Carneros Chardonnay.
Emerging from Wobken, Batto, and Patrick’s Vineyards in the renowned Carneros Appellation, this wine spends 10 months in oak, and is aged sur lie, a French term meaning literally ‘on the sediment.’ The sur lie style aging plays a large role in contributing to this wine’s distinctly complex flavors. If you’re searching for a rich, textured Chardonnay with incredible balance and finesse… This is it.
