Exotic fruits, mature pears, hawthorn and acacia honey on the nose. Warm, velvety, and with balanced acidity. Fresh and lingering. Juicy and harmonious, offering peach, apple and light citrus aromas and flavors. Everything is in the right place, making this hard to put down. Fine length.
Summary: Originally the hunting lodge of the King od Sardinia and Northern Italy, Fontanafredda was established in 1878 by Emmanuele Guerrieri, Count of Mirafiore and son of the King. Fontanafredda is a truly unique estate, comprising the winery and 133 acres of vineyards, restaurants, hotel and the largest natural forest remaining in Piedmont.
Winemaking: 50% of the grapes are de-stemmed, crushed and submitted to a cold maceration for 24 hours at 10° C. The residual 50% is directly placed into the presses prior to crushing. The first juice is then separated from the skins through a gentle pressing. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel at low temperature of 18-20° C, provided a refrigeration and decantation of the must is previously completed.
Once the fermentation is finished, the wine obtained from cryomaceration is then put together with the one obtained with traditional method and stored at 5° C in order to prevent malolactic fermentation.
2014 Vintage: A cool and somewhat wet summer, as experienced across much of southern Europe provided challenges in the vineyard but also allowed the fruit to ripen slowly and maintain aromatics. As better weather arrived in Spring, a high quality crop of whites with delicate flavours and crisp natural acidity was harvested.
Tasting Note: Brilliant pale yellow colour with faint greenish tinge around the edges and watery hue. Floral top notes are followed by citrus and a touch of honeysuckle. Elegant and crisp, the palate displays floral and stone fruit flavours with a dry finish and lingering apple, spice and honeysuckle.
