Gabarinza, meaning “cleared forest,” is often cited as one of Austria’s greatest red wine vineyards. This historic cru is perched along a promontory of magnesium-rich sandy loam with an ideal exposition facing Lake Neusidl. Gernot Heinrich’s parcel is planted to 60% Zweigelt, 30% Blaufrankisch and 10% Merlot and results in a multi-layered wine of equal density and subtlety.
Deep, dark ruby-garnet hue with violet reflections. Aromas of fine nougat and blackberry fruit supported by delicate spices, soft orange notes and complex wood tones. The palate shows body, opulent, ripe berry fruit, perfectly integrated tannins, fine notes of dried fruits in the finish and a lingering fresh fruit expression. Excellent length. A Superb multidimensional food companion with enormous charm.
Pair with mushroom-crusted lamb chops, grilled pork with sundried tomatoes, or chicken cacciatore.
