A wine-producing area of Sicily that is unlike any other in the collective imagination, aterritory with powerful energy, the grape variety that represents the Volcano. Wines weak incolour, with an extremely rich tannic structure and unique aromatic intensity. Black terrain, dry stone walls in lava stone, biodiversity in the forests of chestnut and oak, hardened lavafrom various eras. Tascante is our point of view on Nerello Mascalese, from the oldest vines ofthe Contrada Sciaranova estate, located on the north-east slopes of the volcano.
Our volcano in a glass. Austere and elegant, tannic to just the right point, violets and dog-rose, flinty. Like Etna, it is explosive but never brazen. Etna’s Nerello Mascalese grows in a landscape which is sometimes astral, black and held together by low dry walls, with chestnut and downy oak groves all around. The vineyards in the Sciaranove contrada are over 50 years old and have a northeastern exposure. Only 300-liter large barrels for Tascante.
The vines for the Tasca Il Tascante Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC mature in the region of Randazzo on the volcanic soils of Mount Etna. The grapes are read with great care and then mash directly.
The fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, before the young wine over 18 months mature in French oak barriques. After another four-month maturity on the bottle, the wine comes into the trade.
Spicy stews or a solid BBQ harmonize perfectly with the Tasca Il Tascante Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC.
