This cool climate red pairs fresh and intense notes of spice and small game with ripe notes of dark cherries and blackberries. Backed by vibrant acidity and firm tannins this is approachable now but is suitable for cellaring for at least 10 years.Estate Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Mourvedre and a touch of Viognier, were blended to produce a sleek and sophisticated wine that highlights the best of the red wines Iona produces. The grapes were hand-picked, destemmed and sorted again on a vibrating table. Vinification is traditional extraction was achieved via regular pumpovers followed by punch downs of the cap. The wine completed its malolactic in tank, aged for 12-18 months in French oak barrels (25% new) and was racked 2-3 times before bottling.
The 2008 Iona One Man Band is a red wine made by Iona from the region of Walker Bay made of petit verdot, mourvedre, merlot, cabernet sauvignon, viognier and syrah of 2008 and has an alcoholic content of 14%.
One Man Band is our endeavour to put the best possible red wine from Iona in a bottle using any, some or all of our Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Mourvedre and Viognier, regardless of planted proportions, creating a blend which surpasses any of the single varietals on their own.A blend gives us the leverage to produce. The wine shows cassis fruit, with exotic spice and red fruit notes. It is layered with fragrant ripe cherry and blackberry notes, with underlying spice cedarwood and white pepper characters. The palate is seamless, with elegant fine grained tannins.

Elegant with ripe, juicy red and black fruit. Lovely white pepper and sweet, exotic spice on the nose. The entry is intense, with underlying cedar wood, followed by a long savoury, earthy finish with fine grained tannins.
