Classic Sangiovese aromas of red berry, culinary spice, crushed herb, tobacco and a whiff of new leather float from the glass. The juicy full-bodied palate delivers fleshy wild cherry, raspberry compote, vanilla and star anise framed in firm, refined tannins. Fresh acidity lends balance. Drink 2019–2027.
This wine has the vibrancy and powerful structure to match the cherry, leather, mineral and earth aromas and flavors. As it is still very young, there are some tight tannins on the long and spicy finish that will mellow with a few years’ aging.
This Brunello di Montalcino gets all of its grapes from a single family-owned vineyard on the southeast side of the city, within the very heart of Montalcino. The soil is sandy and rocky, with excellent exposure to the sun. The vineyard trellis system is spurred cordon, and the winemaking methods are traditional for crafting superior Brunello. After careful selection of the handpicked grapes, fermentation takes place with maceration for 25 days in Slovenian oak vats. The wine then spends 12 months in 5 hectoliters French oak tonneaux, before it is transferred to large Slovenian oak casks for another 24 months of aging.
This wine is a perfect accompaniment for red meats and various Italian cheeses.
