Smooth Ambler have proved time and again that they've got a fantastic nose for sniffing out smashing whiskey with their Old Scout range, and they've only gone and done it once more! Their Old Scout American Whiskey is a blend of two whiskeys made with bourbon mashbills - one is aged in new oak barrels, while the other is aged in rejuvenated, re-charred bourbon casks (which is why this can't be labelled as a bourbon).

Aged for six years, Smooth Ambler "Old Scout" Bourbon offers a lively nose of citrus fruit and vanilla, accented by hints of cinnamon and honey. Due to a high rye content in the mashbill, the palate opens with a bold, spicy note which leads to baked apple, vanilla and oak on the long, peppery finish.

Nose: Green apple, salted butter, good quality coffee and a familiar tickle of rye spiciness...

Palate: Swedish pepparkakor with plenty of cinnamon and ginger in the dough. Hints of soft tobacco and caramel develop.

Finish: Chilli chocolate, apple crumble and a pinch of leafy peppermint.
