Wine Enthusiast 90 points - Vibrant gold with orange highlights, fruity scent of apples and pears plus a whiff of vanilla. Soft, velvety feel. This is a pleasant and drinkable Scotch, but the flavors are relatively muted. It mixes well with other flavors, making it a good contender for cocktails. Good value. - K.N..December/2011

Ultimate Beverage Challenge 93 points - Graham dust swirls through this buttery concoction proud of its malt. Baked apricots with warm cream and honey are recalled as well as all parts of fresh chamomile, from the white blossom delicacy to the balancing earthiness of its stem. - 2019 Ultimate Spirits Challenge (Excellent, Highly Recommended) (Great Value) (Tried & True Award).April/2019

Making pure, single malt to this degree of perfection demands the highest level of expertise, professionalism and finesse - but still relies on the nose and palate of the Master Distiller.

Next the liquid is cooled down and yeast is added and fermentation occours in traditional Oregon Pine washbacks, chosen to impart even more flavour into the whisky.

The beer-like liquid is then distilled twice in separate copper pot stills. These unique stills are tall and slender, and create an elegant and complex spirit. Only the finest spirit from the second distillation is considered good enough to put in barrels for maturation.

The Glenlivet is then poured into casks made of white oak - many of which are imported from bourbon distillers or Spanish sherry makers - which contributes a unique character to the raw spirit. The wood slowly gives The Glenlivet its famous amber tint, and over the years the wood and the whisky breathe in the clean, fresh Highland air and add to the complex flavours.

After 8 to 10 years, interesting characteristics develop, and this is the time when many lesser malts are deemed fit for bottling. But not The Glenlivet. Only after at least 12 years in the cask, when the rich balance of flavours have been created, is The Glenlivet seen fit to be sent out into the world to be enjoyed.

The delicate and complex character of the 12 Year Old derives from the height and width of stills at The Glenlivet Distillery. This expression is matured in a mixture of cask types, including American and European Oak. Maturation in American oak imparts vanilla notes and gives the whisky its distinct smoothness. The mineral rich water from Josie’s Well ensures the best possible results during mashing and fermenting to form the flavours that define this expression.

Online order

Purchasing online is more economical than in the local retail outlets if you live in a different state. The only problem is that the shipping cost is overpriced.
